April 2020 is clearly a memorable time for both of us as my father passed away also. I get a huge amount of comfort from knowing that his suffering ended that day, I hope you get a huge amount of comfort, and satisfaction from breathing new life into what he felt was his greatest piece of work. Good luck with your project, I'm sure he would have been incredibly proud of what you are doing.

Anything that, when shared, prompts my mum to tell a story like this gets my seal of approval :-) .......

“How interesting and nice to hear of lads who were happily evacuated.

Your grandad's evacuee brother was similarly lucky. He always said that being sent to the Armitages was, along with meeting his wife, the best thing that ever happened to him.

As you know he came from London via a childrens home in Shoreham to Yorkshire.  He had no memory of his life before that and noone ever "claimed" him back at the end of the war. By then he wanted to stay with the Armitages anyway.”
